Metanopoly: A Nomic Monopoly Game

If you like capitalism so much why don’t you fix it? 

There are two common beliefs I’ve encountered: One that assumes a pure unfettered capitalism results in a perfectly meritocratic system. The other, assumes capitalism is flawed but with the correct set of rules and regulations results in a perfectly meritocratic system.

 Monopoly (and when it was called “The Landlord’s game) aims to disprove the first thesis. So, I created Metanopoly for you to debate the second… 

Hello and welcome to Metanopoly. (Sorry)

Metanopoly is a Nomic version of Monopoly. You may be familiar with some other Nomic games such as ”21” the drinking game, “King’s Cup” also a drinking game. As well as acclaimed games “Baba is You” and the card game “Fluxx”.

Included in Metanopoly is rules on how to hold legislative sessions and a gives you a starting set of six core “Laws of laws” to guide the nomic game. I wrote these after working with experienced nomic and RPG players to create a solid starting point. 

And I do mean starting point: you will make the game your own soon enough!

Gameplay

Monopoly is played. You and other players change a rule or many rules. You are now playing a new game. Repeat. There are more details in the game sheet.
